Love these sketches from the 
International Fashion Desk Diary by Shirley Kennedy.

Always excited when I can show you these lovely drawings.

The following three are by Jill Fitzsimon from Australia.
Any of these could be in style, today.
Her work reflects ecological concerns + Australian nature.

"Leapin' Lizards"

The frill neck lizard is unique to the Australian Desert.
The slim dress is silk/rayon jersey.
The Lizards body is patterned with diamente and silken metallic tulle.

"Clown Trigger Fish"
Has a surreal color pattern of acidic yellows, white & black.

This is printed on lightweight wool/cashmere in a cosy clutch coat. 

 "Rain Forest Parrot"
Rests his head gently on her + wings into flight.
In the shoulder-hugging shawl which is attached to the dress.
Scarlet, fuschia, gold + white threads are interwoven in delicate silk 
in a short strapless evening gown.

These next three are from John Galliano.
He started designing his own collections in 1984.

"Love in bloom"
A yellow freesia background sets off
the romantic rose patterned jacket which is decollete
+ boned in the traditional Edwardian corsety style.

"Summer sonnet"
A petite dress with a velvet tartan-plaid corset bodice
set off by a flower-laden cellophane train.
Red tulips heighten the romantic effect.

"Iris purple haze"
The dress is a collage of slashed silk chiffon

delicately caught with ivory seed beds to 
produce a rough-cut diamond effect. 
A generous train of chiffon displays 
delicate shades of pinks, greys + blacks.

Fashion Illustrations - Jenny Kee & Jesus Del Pozo

International Fashion Desk Diary

This is one of my favorites for fashion illustrations.
I was given this desk diary a few years ago by my godfather.
It is from 1993 & all the illustrations are wonderful.

Jenny Kee

 Jenny Kee's name stands for Australia's truest fashion original.
She created acclaimed designs that capture the essence of Australia.

She designs scarfs, rugs and knitwear.

These are so colorful + unique.

Jenny is of Chinese decent and considers herself 100% Australian.

That is her picture with round glasses.

Jenny creates these on silks, knits, swimwear, bed linens and ceramics.
 They depict aborigine, koalas, kookas, kangas + the beauty
of the outback in Australia, where she has her studio.

Jesus Del Pozo

He is a Spanish designer from the University of Madrid who designed Spanish
uniforms, created wardrobes for television, theater + film stars.

Tubular: a cinnamon color envelope coat with cascading rippling folds
and a stand-up neck plus slim sleeves.

Wavelength: Ombre espresso tones soften a graceful matte jersey tank
and chiffon shirt with wavy soft pleats.

Circular: a lovely confection featuring a soft floral bodice detailed with tucks and gathers
tops a curved satin skirt with a burnt orange chiffon overskirt.


There you have two very diverse designers.
Both have great fashion sense and can be worn NOW.

 Estrella Gonzales

<Estrella Gonzales was born in Barcelona and bases her growing fashion business in that exciting Spanish city. Though she holds a degree in law from the University of Barcelona, she started designing costumes for films in 1979 and in 1981 began designing and selling her original leather garments in collaboration with her mother, a designer of high-fashion apparel.> 

Warm solution: a super overcoat in duo-tones of tasty brown leather
features oversize pockets and a cozy big fur collar.
The drawstring waist gives strong shape definition.

Weekend wonder: casual yet very fashion forward,
a great big jacket of saffron suede with a matching color wool jersey collar.
The jacket is tight-fitting in front with suede overlays.

City Splendor: Redingote jacket in black suede leather
it is detailed with stunning trapunto stitches in spiral patterns
The jacket has open side slits which can be closed with special zippers. 

Jean Claude Poitras

<Good-looking, somewhat irreverent Jean-Claude Poitras is considered by many as Canada's most celebrated designer and one of his country's leading fashion labels. During the years not only has his design talent grown, but Poitras is also known as a respected businessman and an outspoken supporter of the fashion designer's role within the industry. The Montreal born designer studied fashion and graphic arts in his hometown, worked in both the wholesale and retail arena before creating his own women's and men's collections in 1976. In 1990, Poitras Design joined forces with Irving Samuel, one of Canada's leading women's wear manufacturers. Poitras designs and supervises the productions of all his collections from company headquarters in Montreal. >

Cool swirls: a cocoon-shape evening dress made of translucent silk organza
that is topped by a colorful sheer lace.

Cocktails anyone: a dramatic bubble skirt & matching bustier
of crushed velvet is enhanced with sculptured shoulder detail.

 
One-of-a-kind: leather & vinyl in cool shades of purple & teal
define this exciting, asymmetrical jumpsuit.

From the moment he burst onto the fashion scene, the name Geoffrey Beene has reflected originality of design, innovative use of fabrics, and thoroughly modern comfort.

Geoffrey Beene took distinct pleasure in knowing his couture collections inspired both timeless and futuristic designs embraced by both the urban chic and suburban sophisticates – that his vision translated seamlessly from his New York atelier to Main Street ready-to-wear.

A design pioneer, Geoffrey Beene always dressed the body in balance, even as his designs evolved from architectural to flowing soft structure. He had the “masterstroke of a George Balanchine in dance and Ellsworth Kelly in painting.” He challenged the American fashion establishment by creating haute couture for women and classic, superbly tailored styles for men that married comfort and luxury to timeless aesthetic simplicity and exquisite detail.

Geoffrey Beene was obsessed not only with the notion of comfort, but took inspiration from sports as well. His signature wit translated t-shirts, tank tops and varsity-stripes into a new playing field that combined fashion and fun: sequin numbered football jersey gowns, colorful racing silk tunics and the basic sheath or jumpsuits with zippers placed unconventionally and provocatively to showcase the body.

The above dress is so timely, so classic with its black sequins and stretch net!

Panne velvet is my favorite fabric, 
this has black velvet, outlined in sequins 
and white silk fraile.

Hanae Mori

Hanae Mori studied Japanese Literature at Tokyo Women’s Christian
University. After her marriage, she started studying design, and in 1951 opened her first studio in Tokyo. Soon she became involved in the growing post-war Japanese movie industry and designed costumes for more than hundred films.

In 1965 she presented her first Collection abroad in New York, which was highly acclaimed as “East meets West”. Prestigious stores such as Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman and I. Magnin recognized the individuality of her designs and ordered her dresses. In 1975, she presented her Collection in Paris, where in 1977 she opened her Haute Couture Maison. She has been the only Asian designer to be admitted as a member of La Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne for 27 years.

Madame Mori’s achievements include costume designs for opera “Madame Butterfly” at La Scala in Milan in 1985, for “Elektra” at 1996 Salzburg Festival, and for "Arabella" at NEW NATIONAL THEATRE TOKYO in 2010. She also designed the costumes for Paris Opera Ballet’s “Cinderella”, directed by Rudolf Nureyev in 1986.

She was named a “Officier de la Legion d’Honneur” in France in 2002, and received the “Order of Culture” in Japan in 1996.

Serenity:
This evening gown features Hanae Mori's signature butterflies
and blue-green print of undulating waves.

Mystery:
 An embroidered black chiffon low-cut evening gown
features a full-sweep skirt + matching ruffled stole.

Magic words: 
brush-stroke printed chiffon evening gown
in black & white. It has a graceful draped bodice.

A slinky harlequin check multi-color skirt 

is worn with a low-neck fuchsia form-fitting top.

Fancy jewels and a chiffon scarf finish the look.

Hearts and spadex: 

Eye catching colorful appliqués adorn a stand-out suede jacket 
topping long-length purple suede shorts.

Sun sighs:
Citrus-y lemon & lime tones
in a startling full coat over appliquéd & printed sheath
I could wear this today!

I adore this desk diary.
The drawings from various designers are unbelievable.

New Year's Eve: an array of fashions combine lots of glamour, elegance and total sensuality.

Go to great lengths: make an impact in a royal blue silk sheath with a front dip and back interest, body defining draping and a matching stole.

FYI dear readers, Arnold Scaasi was born in Montreal Canada in the early 30's and dressed First Lady Barbara Bush and famous gals such as Elizabeth Taylor &
Barbara Walters just to name a few.

The pictures below are by Italian Franco Moschino.

Fancy that: 

a ruby red riding jacket, black satin shirt with diamante flowers appliqued on the collar.

He added grey flannel trousers and a waistcoat embroidered with rhinestones.

Conservation: 

a striking yellow bomber jacket with an embroidered,"USE, REUSE, RECYCLE",

is worn over a clingy red satin "cheong-san"

Well-suited: 
classy and tough, a three-piece suit in a beige jersey accessorized with a hip-slung belt and bandanna.

Moschino died in 1994 what an artist we lost.
