Doors to kitchen wall

I adore rooms within rooms so when I got the chance to do one, I jumped!

I decided to use unfinished doors with glass panels.

This shows the finished room looking toward the front door of the shop.

We had to make the wall of doors earthquake proof (California you know), stable.
We put steel bars up to the ceiling!

Here is another picture of  how the wall was secured to the ceiling before the doors were painted.

The bottom of the doors were put in grooves made out of wood mouldings.
Here you can see the raw wood of the doors before they were painted before the door to the kitchen was put on.

This shows the way the doors were painted & were put together with moulding.

A friend suggested I put the door that opens to the kitchen at an angle, grand idea!
The hardware for the door that opened to kitchen was an antique from Liz's Hardware in Los Angeles. They have a great selection to choose from.
A magnet was inserted to keep it closed.

This picture shows the privacy film on the glass panels.
I wanted to buy the doors already etched but they were way too expensive.
So this is what I came up with - raw wooden doors with privacy film on glass panels.

Janet lovingly applied the privacy film on the glass.

I used  Gila  frosted privacy window film.
You can get the privacy film here or here.

Voila!!!
My room within a room with painted wooden doors!

I was able to hide the kitchen which was in the middle of the shop.
You could do this in your home or in a loft.

Remember the kitchen in the movie Three Men & a Baby?
I adored that kitchen and I created my own version.

What do you think of this, dear readers?

Let me know!

Have a lovely weekend...

Love,

Peggy

Feather My Nest

I recently read online,

A bird nest is a symbol of the home. It reminds us that we strive to make our home a place where family members grow and prosper. Considered a good luck symbol, the bird nest represents all the love and warmth, enthusiasm and commitment required in creating the happiest of homes.

I have always loved bird's nest, now I understand why.
No, let's say addicted to bird's nest, so much so, I have asked friends to send them  to me!

Tradition says that adding a nest to your Christmas tree will bring you good luck and good fortune during the coming year. It's never too early to think about Christmas.

 Isn't that a wonderful tradition?

Remember my previous post about bird's nests?
You can read it here.

This nest was sent to me by a friend in Texas.
And yes, that is a spray painted golden egg.

These are real bird's nest under the cloches.

Another group of nests.

Real blown out quail eggs(you can buy these) mixed in with the golden egg and some feathers I found.

Globes, nest, eggs, feathers and white animals.
(Janet spray painted these plastic animals white)

The light fixture at client/friends home in California.

This is the light fixture at night all ready for a party!

Light fixture with a sweet bird's nest up in the top.

Isn't this nest brilliant!

Birds are master architects, resourcefulness at its best!
It has fabric woven throughout-

Birds are amazing creatures, they sing, build great homes and fly...
I adore all birds.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Love,

Peggy

Emmy Party

I went to a client/friend's loft in downtown Los Angeles to a wonderful Emmy party a few weekends ago.
Thought you would like a peak!

Made this old wonderful Chinese piece into a bar!

This is table before the party.
You can see the Los Angeles skyline through the bamboo blinds.

Another view from the dining room - Look at the owner's cute doggie!

Getting ready for the party.

Another view of the table.

Prepping the Chinese salad.

Beautiful Plates

All was beautiful at this Emmy Party and everyone  had a grand time.

It's been over 100 degrees in Los Angeles this past week.
We are still in summer here in Southern California but a little bird told me fall is on its way.

How is the weather where you are?

Love,

Peggy

Santa Monica Airport Flea Market

I ventured forth to the Santa Monica flea market on Sunday!
It is on the 1st and 4th Sunday of the month.

It is called the Airport Market because it is right next to the Santa Monica Airport. There's plenty of parking.
You can hear & see the planes taking off and land.

Here we go to the Market!

Open from 6am to 3pm on the first and fourth Sunday of every month

(323) 933-2511

Here is one of the parking areas.

Interesting vendors with pop-up shade.

Tons of beads to be found here.

I loved this car all done up with lipstick & eyelashes!

Glassware sparkling in the sun, you can see a runway behind the fence.

All kinds of plants to take home.

Folks looking & shopping.

This is The Museum of Flying at the Santa Monica Airport.

Since I am from Pensacola, Florida (Home of the Blue Angels) - this Blue Angel Navy & Gold plane was exciting to see.

A volunteer was working on this plane, getting it all ready!

Interesting!

All in all, I had a wonderful time going to the Santa Monica flea market.
What a wonderful way to spend a Sunday morning.
You can grab a quick bite, then tour the museum.
As we come up on another Sunday, what are your plans, dear readers-

Love,

Peggy

Architectural Happenings- Garden, Part 3

This is part 3 of my friend / client's magnificent garden in Southern California.

There may be a few more posts of this garden depending on the amount of pictures.

These are a variety of blue hydrangeas.

There are hundreds of these glorious flowers throughout the garden!

This is at the front of the house/garden.

A wonderful hammock

A beautiful place to rest at the front of the house
(There are places to rest all through the garden)

 View of the archway/vine.

The glorious walkway to the tennis court at upper level

This is the walkway outside the lower level of the home.

Outside the office on the lower level.

Another outside area on the lower level - Look at that view!

Lanterns in the trees light up in the evening.

 Terrace off the lower level.

 Paths among the terrace.

This is a view off the lower level.

Another view from the lower level.

Looking up the pathway to the tennis court.
This garden is so beautiful - has taken years to perfect.
It is an on going project!

Hope you have enjoyed walking with me on this garden tour.
